Good for the DH bad for the NHS

23 Jul 10 10:20

It may be good for the DH and CfH, to help them show a quick win to thier political masters, but it is incredibly short sighted and very bad news for local NHS organisations, who now have to pick up the bill.

As for the home users.  How can suddently being told to delete the software they've paid for (ok not much but still their money) be anything but bad?

cost dumping

24 Jul 10 08:59

Yes, an easy change for DoH to 'save' money, which will create far more cost at the sharp end, and for NHS employees, who have suddenly had a (very rare) perk swiped.

The framework was a bad idea in the first place as it promoted profligate installation, and overpayment, especially where the NHS has largely been stopped from installing the latest versions by compatability issues for (eg.) C&B. But having taken that path, it did remove elements of local bureocracy and risk, all now unceremoniously dumped.

Thanks guys.

The winner is Microsoft, of course. All the way through. And I suspect their spyware tells them exactly how many desktops and which versions the NHS was actually using.

end of home user service

30 Jul 10 11:45

Yes, as they know of my legitimate purchased jhome office account (at CFH's suggestion) am expecting to receive a letter / e-mail of explanation and apology from CfH and Microsoft soon. probably in NPfIT timescale, so it will be next month then.

Home User Programme

31 Jul 10 07:58

I think some people are missing the point. Everyone who bought through the Home User Programme accepted the terms of the deal. It might well be helpful (and strengthen any later suit against you) for MS and/or CfH to write to you but they don't have to.

And incidentally, hasn't your SHA sent to your CfH technical lead the extensive factsheets? If you want to make the position clear to all, can't you use your website, newsletter etc?
