CfH launches new Summary Care Record film

10 Jan 2008

Connecting for Health has produced a new film detailing the experiences of patients and clinicians in the Summary Care Record (SCR) early adopter areas.

The film, entitled 'Summary Care Records: The Story So Far' expands on literature already available to NHS patients and staff on the Care Records Service website.

The video features interviews with Dr Gillian Braunold, clinical director for the Summary Care Record and HealthSpace, ambulance drivers, and others who have been using the SCR in the early adopter sites.

Paying particular attention to security, the film features interviews with both those in favour of and against the SCR.

It emphasises the security arrangements in place for the SCR, a concern which is high on people’s minds following the recent loss of clinical information relating to 168,000 patients by nine NHS trusts.

Last week, EHI reported on a Times newspaper survey that found four-fifths of doctors are concerned plans for the SCR will make patients’ records insecure.

The film can be downloaded from the Connecting for Health website accompanied by a text version of the script.

It can also be ordered in both CD-ROM and DVD formats from NHS Connecting for Health's online publications ordering system.

More than 110,000 patient records in Bolton and Bury have now been uploaded to the NHS Spine, which forms the platform for the SCR.
