E-Health Insider Awards 2010 in association with BT
E-Health Insider’s fourth annual awards took place last week in Covent Garden in central London. More than 450 potential winners, sponsors and guests saw comedian Marcus Brigstocke hand out awards in nine categories, after which an overall winner and the IT champion of the year were announced.

A system that enables paramedics to record patient details and transmit them electronically to receiving staff at A&E departments across Scotland scooped the overall prize, having first won the ‘best use of mobile technology in healthcare.’
The champion award, which is decided by EHI readers, went to John Thornbury, ICT director at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, who modestly declared that it was for everybody working in healthcare IT.
Jon Hoeksma, editor of EHI, said: “We face a period of austerity in public services, but it is clear that the coalition government’s plans for healthcare will make ever-increasing demands on the skills of the healthcare IT community.
"Ambitions to provide more choice, to enable patients to control their own records, and to improve the commissioning of health services all need to be underpinned by excellent IT. The awards provide a great showcase for the talent available to tackle those reforms.”
