Programmes such as NHS Connecting for Health may have laid the foundations for changing the way that healthcare works, but its political future is uncertain and new demands must be met.

NHS North Somerset has used IP Multimedia to improve contact between staff and patients at its new Marina Healthcare Centre. It has also reduced costs, since all calls are free across its network. “We’re saving money and serving patients better than ever before,” says estates and facilities manager Vicki Lovis.
