Patient safety through e-prescribing

Earlier this year E-Health Insider and the British Computer Society's Health Informatics Forum jointly ran a round table bringing together clinicians, academics and industry experts to examine how electronic prescribing can improve patient safety. E-prescribing has huge potential to improve patient safety, but it remains difficult and few NHS hospitals have yet implemented e-prescribing systems. The round table examined how adoption can be accelerated and whether lessons can be drawn from primary care, where e-prescribing is now commonplace.

This special E-Health Insider report details the expert discussion, insights and recommendations made by independent panel on this vital topic. Provided below are PDFs providing an executive summary, the more detailed full report, contributions made by EHI's readers, and the original briefing paper provided to participants.

EHI readers are now invited to continue the debate online on this key topic using the dedicated forum we have set up.
