EMIS creates replica 'surgery of the future' for HC2007

It is set to be the focal point for primary healthcare staff visiting HC2007 – a replica GP surgery linked to a typical patient’s home, created to showcase the best in the latest IT technology from EMIS and partners.

At 160m², the EMIS Primary Care Interoperability Village on stand A40 is also the biggest at Harrogate, occupying pole position by the main entrance to the exhibition. With the theme ‘tomorrow’s technology today’, it has been specially built for HC2007. Visitors will be able to try out the technology for themselves and see how EMIS products interoperate with those of its partners, working together with the patient to help deliver better healthcare.

EMIS Healthcare Managing Director Sean Riddell said: “We think this is a fresh and innovative way to showcase the latest products and services that are already delivering tangible benefits to GPs, admin staff, nursing teams and patients.”

The stand includes a replica surgery reception, waiting room, consultation room, practice admin office and patient’s home, each featuring the technology already available to equip GPs and their patients in the 21st Century.

On display will be recent breakthroughs such as mobile online access to patient records, internet appointment booking, text message reminders to patients, software to help GPs calculate their QOF points and Qute – the first system to show the patient’s primary and secondary care record side by side.

Riddell adds: “What all these innovations have in common is that they are part of EMIS’s partner programme, meaning a commitment to interoperability and shared standards. All of these products work seamlessly together – this is vital if healthcare IT is to continue to bring benefits to practices and patients alike.

“The Primary Care Interoperability Village will be a tangible demonstration of how different companies working together can meet the varying IT needs of GPs. We believe that on this stand visitors will find the widest possible variety of primary care IT – most of it already being used by busy working GPs.”

HC2007 is the largest health informatics conference in Europe and attracts a large number of delegates including IM&T practitioners, clinicians, researchers, healthcare media and thought leaders. The annual showcase is a crucial industry forum for companies to demonstrate new products.
